Merrick To Leave Aston Villa
Aston Villa Ladies would like to thank Beth Merrick for her dedication in claret and blue as she leaves the club after nearly 13 years.
Beth Merrick has announced that she’ll be leaving Aston Villa Ladies ahead of the 2018/19 season.
The fan favourite has been with the club for over a decade, coming through the centre of excellence and going onto make 100 appearances for the club – the last of which came on the final day of last season against Sheffield FC.
She announced the decision on social media on Thursday afternoon, saying she feels it’s the right time to move on with off-field developments.
She wrote: “Anyone who knows me will understand how difficult this decision will have been for me, but with graduating university this month I feel a fresh start and challenge for the new season fits at a good time for me personally with teaching beginning in September.
“I’ve got countless memories at the club with myself, my family and some of the amazing friends I have made. I’ve had fantastic highs and of course some low points, but learnt a hell of a lot through it all!
“I’d like to thank every single person past and present at Aston Villa for helping me grow and learn as a player. You don’t spend over a decade at one place without a love and passion for where you are.”
Merrick played 24 times for Villa last season, finishing as second top scorer with four goals – the last of which came in the 4-3 defeat to Sheffield on the final day of last season.
Everyone at Aston Villa Ladies would like to place on record their thanks to Beth for her hard work, commitment, passion and dedication during her time at the club. We’d also like to wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
