Mitchell Backs Girls Academy To Be A Success
As a former BMet student, first team coach Corinne Mitchell knows first-hand how good the Girls Football Academy's education partner is
The new Girls Football Academy will provide a pathway into the Aston Villa Ladies senior set-up while providing a first-rate education for young footballers.
BMet are the Academy’s education partner, offering the flexibility for girls to choose to study A Levels, BTECs or vocational courses alongside playing for Aston Villa in the National Football Youth League.
Several of the Aston Villa Ladies players and staff are former BMet students and one of them, first team coach Corinne Mitchell, sees the partnership as a great fit for the Academy.
Mitchell did a BTEC diploma in Sports and Exercise Science and combined her studies with achieving national success with the college’s football team.
She said: “Having the opportunity to study and play football at the same time gave me a better understanding of the game, not just playing but within the coaching sciences too.
“The flexibility of the programme really pushed me to focus on both my studies and playing football as well as develop. From this, I’ve gone on to coach in different countries around the world and in the elite women’s game.”
Aston Villa Ladies defender and FA Level 2 coach Jade Richards has recently been announced as the lead coach for the Academy, who will train and play at Boldmere St Michaels FC.
Mitchell believes Richards is the perfect person to ensure the new course and its students are successful on the pitch.
She said: “Without the support and drive from BMet’s Female programme, I wouldn’t have known what was out there for me.
“I couldn’t be prouder to have our Ladies first team female role model, Jade Richards, leading the next generation of players and coaches with the professional support of BMet.”
The next trial for the Academy will take place at Aston Villa’s Recon Training Complex on 31 May from 4-6pm, and it will consist of a one-hour football session followed by an informative presentation.
